Portinllaen, now Porthdinllaen was a busy port in the mid to late 19th century. Due to poor roads in Wales it was often easier to move cargo by sea than by land. Portinllaen was considered as the harbour for the route to Ireland, but Holyhead was chosen instead. It is now a very small village and due to the preservation of its old buildings and its position it is often used as a film location. (Wikipedia).
